Went to pronto for lunch yesterday. Mom's bday. Actually it was on the 22nd. The bday, not the lunch, mind you. Way much too crowded. Not too long after we arrived, came a horde of country people (or "orang kampung"). All pretended to be modern. But i could see they were nothing but hillbillies. Yuck! From the way the used spoons and forks. The way they ate. The way they talked. Disgusting. Try this, for example. Eat pizza & melons. On the same plate! Pineapple, i could understand. But melon??? Maybe it was some kind of food combining. Or maybe they should stick to warungs and stay out of restaurants! Especially with me around! Grrr... Oya, met lita, too. She was slim, my sister didn't recognize her right away. She said she now works in a hair styling company or something like that. That's why her hair is sorta groovy. Went to metro before getting home. Saw a casio stand. G-shock watches! Hmmm... Wanted to find out how much my watch was (it was a gift i got from im3's point reward program). I wasn't disappointed. 800 thousands something! Wow! I used 6000 points, which i collected for a year or so. It was a very good deal, i suppose.

X-men movies. What's not to like them? Even though they're very different from the comics, they're still great. The stories, costumes, acting, stars, everything! Not too mention the sexy Mistique! Hubba hubba! And there are comic-related inside jokes everywhere. Like in the first movie, where wolverine complained about his costume. Cyclops responded: "what, you'd prefer yellow spandex?" That was so funny, because in the comics, wolverine's costume was yellow! Hahaha... The last movie also makes me chuckled a bit. Near the end, jean grey was sacrificing herself to save the others. She talked to cyclops thru professor x. When she said goodbye, i thought prof x was going to kiss cyclops! Hahaha... Btw, if there'll be a third movie, i'm quite sure jean grey will return as phoenix. There were hints everywhere in the second. Of course, only those who read the comics will get the hints. I was a bit down when i read that brian singer left the project and opted to direct superman. Hey, i like superman, and i think the movie will be great with him in charge. But x-men will be different without him! I don't care about halle berry, though. Storm can be replaced or gets killed. Then she'll return in another form. Or even make her returns as an infant! Then we'll have gambit. Hmmm... Interesting... I'll just hope there'll be a third x-men movie.

Yikes! I'll be having my first presentation tomorrow. This is for the prospective client i talked about yesterday. I'm very, very nervous. My first presentation in months! In english, nonetheless. *sigh* and there'll be time limit. There 60 something slides, and we have 30 minutes. Luckily i'm not alone. My part is only 6 slides. And i'll be talking about the media, my supposedly strength. I'm still nervous, though. But i must be ready, for it will be a great achievement if we can get this client.

dying, media, analysis, stuff

Just watched LOTR: return of the king, again. The ending, where frodo says goodbye to his friend is very, very sad. For me, at least. It makes me think. Let's say you have a friend, who's dying. On his or her last conscious moment, he or she says goodbye to you, well aware that that is the last time. It'll be sad, won't it? But compared to a sudden death, which leaves you with no chance of saying goodbye? Which one is more sad? I can't answer that. I don't really know the answer. Hmmm... If i told this to dyana, she'd say: "you morbid!" Hahaha... Oh well.

My brain worked over time today at the office. Doing analysis & media interviews over the phone. My experience at infokomputer helped me with the connection to media. But other than that, it's a whole new world. I can't speak here what i've been doing about. But let's just say i'm very familiar with this matter. Mbak warih, whom i talked to for the media interview, even laughed & said, "Why ask me? This was your domain. You know this better than all of us here at info." Well, yeah, as a matter of fact, i do. Hehehe... The thing is, my point of view is somewhat different now. I'm not a journalist anymore. So i must listen to the media. Oh, and there's this one little thing. Whenever i speak on the phone, i must pause and think for a moment. I should say "stephen, indo pacific." right? But everytime i'd almost slip and say "stephen, infokomputer." Hahaha...

Re-decoration. After so many years with the same layout, i've moved around some things in my room, notably the bed. Now it feels much spacious. Heck, when i was at bond, it was a semesterly ritual. I still need to tidy things up, though. It's a complete mess. I have so many stuffs! I figure i'll do it tomorrow. For now i'm just enjoying the new scenery. Hehehe...

It's friday already. The holiday is almost over. Boo hoo. The end of holiday means it's time to work again. No more waking up close to lunch time. At least i can check my gmail again. Doing it from my pda is a pain-in-the-you-know-where. Not to mention heavy drain on my pda's and mobile's batteries AND my eyes. *LOL* Today, i got my hair cut. Very comfy with short hair. Harder to comb, though. But less shampoo needed! Hehehe... Had an sms discussion with venny, yesterday. The topic was: significant other. The other day she told (or rather, texted) me, she was searching for new friends, and if possible, potential boyfriend. But yesterday, she changed her mind. No boyfriends for the moment, she said. And she asked me about the same subject. I said, i don't bother. I'm comfy with my present situation. I can spend my money for myself. Not for some blood-sucking vampires (read: GIRLS). And she agreed! Hahaha...

Just got back from kelapa gading. Tante anneke & rico treated up for a nice dinner at rico's restaurant, "the corner". Very nice food, and quite cheap, too! But i need at least 3 portions, hahaha... I had chicken steak, sandwich, and crepe. With side dishes, of course! Hehehe... There's one thing that bothers me, though. You see, i brought my two cameras with me. But i didn't take any pictures. The mood just wasn't there. This happens quite a lot. Perhaps this is a good sign that i shouldn't really be thinking about getting a new lens or flash for my canon. But now i'm thinking of having an ipod. Hmmm...

a week off!!!

damn! i was off for a week. then went to the new office for 2 weeks. then, again, a week off!!! hahaha... and today, we're on casual clothes!! 1/2 day too!!! wow!!! hahaha.... i don't even have anything to do today. no media monitoring. no media analysis. just some e-mails to send.

also, a new n-gage game is out. requiem of hell. dunno what it is, though. this is the description i got from uxge:

"You’re Troy, a hero who has returned to a peaceful village life after traversing deep into the belly of Hell, risking your soul to extinguish the fires for good. What nobody told you is that for the last three years, the good sorceress Linda had been using those fires to imprison Dalu, the most evil fiend in existence. Now that he’s free, his strength has increased a hundredfold and he has re-awakened the Dragon Tree – Hell’s own power source. Smooth move, hero."

sounds scary, eh? i'm downloading it as i write this. and i'll have a whole week to play it. and if i get bored, i still have 12 more voltus vcds to go through! hahaha... sounds like a week holiday well-planned, huh??

getting more work

oboy, i'm getting busier and lazier at the same time. busier at work, and lazier at writing to this blog. so, sue me! hahaha...

anyway. i'm getting more involved with the works. media monitoring and media analysis for now. it's not to hard, actually. i just have to decide the summary, message, criteria, such things. much more easier than writing a review, i tell you! hahaha... i was very flattered yesterday, when i got these media clippings from media monitors indonesia, a division of ip. some of them are product reviews i wrote for infokomputer's november edition. *sniff* but it's too bad i can't put them in media analysis. nothing personal, though. it's not because i wrote them or anything. but generally, product reviews are not included in media analysis, especially if they're not connected with the clients. in this case, cisco.

monday, i was more flattered. we had a meeting with commtech. even though i don't know them personally, i've had contacts with them. the meeting was okay. commtech personnels need to be taught english, though. their english is very, very bad. anyway. when we got to talk about media relations, they said they had some product reviews. and they had a sample of one of the reviews. when i looked at it, it was my article! damn! they put it on their display! wow! i couldn't be more flattered. hehehe...

settling in

i'm settling in rather nicely here, i think. org2nya lymn okeh, funky pula. as far as attitudes go, i'd say not much different to infokomputer. tp yg jelas environmentnya beda banget. di sini, we mostly talk in english. infokomputer, jelas2 kemampuan bahasa inggris sebagian org2nya very, very below standar.

kmrn jg ada buka puasa bersama, sekalian perpisahan sama mbak tjitji, sekretaris chadd. nice food! yeah!

di sini time managementnya jg much better. we have to use a program, called timeslips. it's where we put times on such things like meetings, translations, etc. basically what we do, we put in timeslips. anything that has to do with work, actually. so i don't put how many hours i spent blogging, if you ask me =P

the people... well, i'm comfy with the four people i'm sharing this cubicle with. deden, dania, eka. deden is a consultant, while dania & eka are aes. they're in technology division, like me. enak diajak ngegosip. hehehe... that's the most important thing!

new yahoo! id

due to a strange behaviour, my ym, when used with "steve_warouw" wouldn't allow me to add new people. but i needed to add new people. so, i've given up, and created a new yahoo id. it's "stephenwarouw". so if you haven't seen me online for a while, there's a good chance i haven't added you to my new ym. please add me, ok. but i haven't abandoned my old id. i still use it from time to time. i also still use it when i connect to ym from my mobile.

now i feel myself strange. a whole blog in english!!! hahaha... i'm beginning to act like an employee of ippr. here, people talk mostly in english. even though they're fellow indonesians. i used to (and still do) hate talking to fellow indonesians in engligh, but it looks like i'll have to adjust that mindset.

there are some advantages of having worked at infokomputer. my friends have asked me several times to liaise. it feels strange. now i talk to my friends at ik as an outside person. they even changed their tones, you know! hahaha... mbak warih laughed when i talked to her. she said now i talked differently. well... do i?

new office, new job!

nahhhhhhh, akhirnya gw pny akses ke komputer lagi. although, it's rather disappointing as this comp is almost as bad, or even worse, than my ex-comp at infokomputer. hehehe... tp plg gak internetnya kenceng skale!!!

so, here i am. kantor baru. kerjaan baru. lingkungan baru. orang-orang baru! i'll have a hard time remembering all these new people. but that's one of the challenges, right? hehehe...

now i have a spacious desk. it's still very, very empty. but soon it will be full, no doubt about it! hahaha... oya, gw jg skrg pny telp sendiri. tp blm tau nmr ekstensionnya. the chair is much, much better than the one i had at info, for sure.
